The role

Join us, and you will help to improve the lives of those that live in, work in and visit our city.  As a Senior Commercial Manager, you’ll be part of the Procurement Services Management Team, working collaboratively with colleagues in the department, across the council and with partners to achieve better commercial outcomes.  Every day will present new and exciting challenges, as you take ownership of the commercial and procurement needs of your business area, seeing to it that all aspects of the service are successfully delivered. As the voice of the customer, you’ll be bold in imagining how things could be done better, using expert market knowledge to provide outstanding advice to senior stakeholders and exploring innovative new models of service delivery.

Your background

This is a strategic role working alongside senior stakeholders, including acting as a trusted adviser to Executive Directors and Elected Members.  You’ll be a dynamic individual with a track record of achieving better outcomes through innovative commercial practices.  A strong customer ethos and outstanding stakeholder management skills are essential, as you help shape the ambitions of your business area into a strategic programme of commercial activity.

Sharp commercial acumen is a must, and you might not come from a traditional procurement background.  This role is about much more than managing a process - we’re leading the way on many aspects of social value, the living wage and ethical supply chains.  And we want to go further, working with our partners in all sectors to tackle the climate emergency, reduce inequality and promote diversity and inclusion.

A great place to grow

We know that the best results are generated when our people have the freedom to flourish. It’s how we set standards that others seek to emulate. So you can expect to enjoy agile working and targeted personal and professional development. We work hard to create a progressive and diverse working environment, including benefits like shared parental leave and flexible working opportunities.
